When Siding Repair Is the Right Call — And When It Isn’t

Most Seattle siding contractors will quote you full replacement on a phone call. We won’t. Repair is the better call in these specific cases:

Recent repair projects:

Damage is localized to one wall, one corner, or a discrete section — not site-wide.
The WRB and sheathing behind the cladding are intact — we confirm this with a small inspection panel before quoting.
The rest of the cladding has 5+ years of useful life left — we don’t patch a wall that’s going to need full replacement next year.
The original install had a working rainscreen and proper flashing — if not, repair just kicks the can.
Replacement materials are still available — matching profiles for cedar and Hardie are usually fine; old hardboard and discontinued vinyl colors are not.

Replace, don’t repair, when: the WRB is failing across multiple walls, rot has spread into framing, or the original install has no rainscreen and is trapping moisture site-wide. A repair on a wall with systemic moisture problems is throwing money at a wall that will fail again within 2–3 years.
